アップルは2011年4月27日、iPad 2を2011年4月28日に発売することを発表した。
香港、インド、イスラエル、韓国、マカオ、マレーシア、フィリピン、シンガポール、南アフリカ、トルコUAEで4月29日（金）に発売する。
中国ではWi-Fi版を5月6日から発売する。
日本では4月28日に、Apple直営店やソフトバンクショップで午前9時から順次発売。オンラインでは4月29日午前1時から発売する。
価格はWi-Fiの16GBモデルが44,800円、32GBモデルが52,800円、64GBモデルが60,800円。Wi-Fi + 3G版はWiFi版に1.2万円ほどプラスした価格になる。
マグネット式のSmart Coverは、ポリウレタン製が3,980円、革製が6,980円となる。
