富士通は2011年4月21日、企業向けLIFEBOOKシリーズにおいて、ピークシフトへの対応やACアダプタの消費電力を限りなくゼロにする、ゼロワットACアダプタを投入することを発表した。
ピークシフトは、LenovoのThinkPadや東芝の企業向けdynabookなどでも導入していたが、ゼロワットACアダプタは他社にない機能となる。
ノートパソコンは一般的に、内蔵バッテリの容量を常に100%に維持しようとする。
これは、電源ONの時も電源OFFの時も同じだ。
今回の富士通の製品では、ECO Sleep機能という機能を使い、バッテリ容量は設定容量(通常100%)から10%低減しない限り充電しないようになった。
つまり、バッテリ残量が90%になるまで充電することが無くなる。それに加えて、ゼロワットACアダプタによって、この電源OFFで充電もしていないような状態時にACアダプタの消費電力を低減できる。
通常、このバッテリ容量を100%に維持する機能のために、0.2W程度の電力を消費しているが、ゼロワットACアダプタは0.0015Wとなりほぼゼロの消費電力となる。
大企業などで、ノートパソコンを1000台使用し、深夜などに電源OFFでも電源に繋いでいる間は0.2W×1000で200W消費している事になる。
つまり、大きめの冷蔵庫にちかい電力を何もしていないのに消費しているということになる。この新製品を使用することで、これが1.5Wとなり消費電力がほぼゼロになる。
